A Nashville Birthday Adventure: Celebrating Aunt Jenn’s 40th

When it comes to milestone birthdays, you’ve got to make them special. For my Aunt Jenn’s 40th, we knew Nashville was the perfect choice for a day of surprises and celebrations with her kids (my awesome cousins) in tow.

The Birthday Surprise

Before hitting the road, I channeled my inner party planner and created a little mystery game with envelopes and index cards. But first, we kicked things off with a candy-themed poster (inspired by Rich’s mom) that had everyone laughing. Picture this: “Turning 40 is nothing to Snickers about. Your mind will play Twix on you…” – you get the idea! The look on Jenn’s face when she saw it was priceless, and we even got Rich’s parents on FaceTime to watch her reaction.

Adventures in 12 South

Our first surprise stop? Amelia’s Flower Truck in 12 South – because what’s a birthday without flowers? Watching Jenn pick out her birthday bouquet was so special, and she even let each kid pick their own flower (how sweet is that?). And guys, the craziest thing happened – we spotted Jessie James Decker with her kids! Of course, we played it cool and gave them their space, but inside, we were totally fangirling.

Next up was our impromptu photo shoot in front of those famous Nashville murals. Jenn was rocking her birthday sash and hat like the queen she is, and those Draper James wall shots? Absolutely Instagram-worthy!

Food Adventures

Here’s where my planning got a bit extra – I had prepared cards with practically every restaurant option in Nashville! After much debate (and lots of laughs), we landed on The Pharmacy Burger Parlor & Beer Garden. Best. Decision. Ever. Jenn even got a birthday shake, because calories don’t count on your birthday, right?

But we weren’t done with the sweet treats! Thanks to birthday freebies (pro tip!), we scored free ice cream at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and a birthday donut at Five Daughters Bakery. Because one dessert is never enough when you’re celebrating 40!

Treasure Hunting

Our last stop was East Nashville Antiques & Vintage, which turned out to be such a gem. Jenn found the perfect souvenir – an adorable Spanish children’s book. It was exactly the kind of unique find you hope for in a vintage shop.

For the drive home, I had one last surprise up my sleeve – glow-in-the-dark balloons scattered throughout the van. Because why not end the day with a little magic?

Looking back, it wasn’t just about the places we visited or the treats we ate. It was about celebrating Jenn, making memories with family, and proving that turning 40 can be absolutely fabulous. Nashville, you were the perfect backdrop for our special day. From live music echoing through the streets to the warm smiles of locals, every moment felt infused with joy and laughter. Wandering through quaint shops and savoring delicious cuisine, we truly embraced the southern charm in Franklin. As the sun set over the city, we knew that this milestone birthday would be cherished in our hearts for years to come.

Travel Tips:

  • Most of these spots are in popular areas, so go early to avoid crowds
  • 12 South can get packed on weekends – weekday visits are more chill
  • Make sure to check each place’s hours before you go
  • Don’t forget your camera – the photo ops are endless!

And remember, sometimes the best travel moments are the unplanned ones – like spotting a celebrity at a flower truck or finding the perfect vintage book. That’s what makes these adventures unforgettable.
